SKOLKOVO Business School is launching a private discussion club for anyone doing international business.
All the events will be held in English and attended by a limited number of participants, while the list of guests will be moderated with the utmost care and circumspection, so that all the attendants enjoy the time spent together.
The new season will start with a meeting with Oleg Remyga, Head of China Studies, SKOLKOVO Business School, and an expert in doing business with China. What does China bring to mind – complex negotiations and an unfamiliar environment, or the rapid development of E-commerce and major infrastructure projects?
The truth is that companies accessing the Chinese market have to deal with both these issues. The main markets are saturated, it is becoming harder to protect a business, while competition is increasingly unfair. One business development scenario and way to overcome obstacles is to scale up on new markets.
In this context, Asian markets are the most promising from the perspective of total market volume and the growing middle class. China is the largest economy in Asia. Russia-China cooperation is developing rapidly both politically and economically. Sales turnover is heading for USD 100 billion, while Chinese investments in the Russian economy already exceed USD 36 billion. Electronic platforms are being developed, enabling companies and their products to access the markets of both countries, regardless of scale.
At the same time, a number of barriers have to be overcome before you can access the vast Chinese market. First of all, cultural specifics which affect both the models for doing business and consumer preferences. Secondly, internal political and economic processes which are even reflected in the operations of private companies in China. Thirdly, regional diversification in the country. The terms for doing business differ significantly in different regions of the country, depending on the company’s property structure and industry.
We will also discuss China’s regional diversification and what regional channels can be used to access the Chinese market.
